Bag-a-Trois: Valentino’s Rockstud Spike Bag

In case you missed our first Bag-a-Trois post (1 Bag, 3 Ways),  this is a series of styling a featured bag – you guessed it- three different ways. This week, you may have caught a case of shoppers fatigue after the weekend flurry of snapping up Memorial Day deals and most likely, your credit cards are bemoaning that you’ve spent enough, but, that doesn’t mean you still can’t look at pretty things. Valentino’s Rockstud Spike bag is one we enjoy looking at.

For years, the trendy-yet-classic Rockstud signature of Valentino was something I thought would fade away. Sitting here, with 8 years behind me since its first launch, it’s probably safe to say that it wont happen anytime soon. At first, I couldn’t stand the sight of it but I now know the reason behind this was because it was glaringly everywhere.

Nothing turns me off bags, or anything in general when the make of something is deeply saturated (I don’t own an iPhone, for example), and that’s what happened to the Rockstud aesthetic when it was widely adopted by mass chain retailers. I’m now happy to proclaim that I’m a Valentino convert, especially after seeing its Resort 2019 bag collection, which inspired oodles of feel good vibes in me! This certain Rockstud Spike bag has a great shape (and size) and it has the sort of top handle that’s easy to grasp; plus it’s like a Chanel flap bag but with tons more attitude.

Check out the fun ways of styling it below and let us know your favorite.

Get your own at Net-a-Porter in medium, $2,795.

Style 1 – Summer ease

This look has a summer ease about it, but it also has minute points of interest in the details. The Valentino Rockstud Spike bag adds to the points of interest AND a dash of glamour.

  1. J.CREW Marseille striped linen jumpsuit, $130 at Net-a-Porter
  2. CULT GAIA Small Osiris Cuff, $130 at Moda Operandi
  3. CULT GAIA Ark Earring, $100 at Moda Operandi
  4. MICHAEL KORS COLLECTION Serena Leather Slides, $495 at Saks Fifth Avenue

Style 2 -Branding it like a boy

The classic jeans and T-shirt combo exists specifically for lazy days when you don’t want to mentally theorise what to wear. It’s an overall tomboy look, with brand signatures including the Valentino Rockstud Spike bag – which also lends a feminine touch! If you’re a neck tie dummie, here’s how you can style it. And the key here, is to use a bandana scarf to omit the bulk.

  1. GIVENCHY Printed cotton-jersey T-shirt, $565 at Net-a-Porter
  2. ACNE STUDIOS Long straight-leg boyfriend jeans,$347 at Matchesfashion

Style 3 – Black satin luxe

Black in Summer you say? In satin, why haven’t you done it already? The deep V camisole is so slinky and cool and you can tuck it haphazardly into a match-y satin skirt. Of course, you can’t be a total goth princess in Summer, which is why the Rockstud Spike bag is there for your happily ever after.
