There aren’t many brands that make products under $10 that beauty pros – who have every product imaginable at their finger tips – swear by but countless of them have e.l.f. Cosmetics in their makeup bags. Among e.l.f.’s stars is their lip exfoliator, which unlike pretty much everything else on the market comes in a lipstick-like applicator (versus a pot). Clinique, Fresh, Sara Happ…I’ve tried a ton of awesome lip exfoliators in the past (winters in NYC are the worst!! It’s so dry I usually wake up with a nose bleed…), but all of them require sticking my finger (hello bacteria…) into the product; they’re also, in comparison, very expensive. The one from e.l.f. Cosmetics is just $3! It comes in classic sugar or a variety of flavors. Like with the pots you apply it to damp lips and massage the product in to exfoliate before wiping it away. So, yes, your fingers will still get a little dirty and require being washed, but you’re not contaminating the actual product in the same way as with a pot. There is a downside, however. The first few times I used the exfoliator it was awesome, but after a few uses the product becomes more and more abrasive (you feel more texture as the balm part of the product starts to wear off), meaning you’ll likely have to use a balm after application. That said the lack of consistency throughout the life of the product is more than offset, in my opinion, by the packaging and price.
Note I only tried the brown sugar variety so I can’t attest to how strong the color or flavor may or not be from the others. Have you tried them? Please share!
