The fashion industry is still nowhere near where it needs to be when it comes to size inclusivity. While we might know that we’re not all meant to look like Victoria’s Secret models it can be hard to not feel like you should. Which is crazy! Even the Victoria’s Secret models don’t look like Victoria’s Secret models without hours of hair/makeup and Photoshopping, which is why it’s so great that there are some fashion-forward brands embracing size inclusivity.
Nearly 3/4 of American women wear a size 14 or above. Here’s a look at five brands that embrace them with a constant influx of fashionable finds.
Launched just a few months ago, Universal Standard‘s collection (both images above feature some of their best-sellers) have an unprecedented size range: 00 to 40! They’ve already partnered with GOOP and J. Crew and have a ton of great everyday basics along with more fashion-forward items (in a wide range of silhouettes). What I love most about this brand is their message: they don’t consider themselves a size inclusive or plus-size brand, they just consider themselves a fashion brand. Hopefully the future will be full of more like-minded labels.
Activewear brand Girlfriend Collective not only offers up clothing in sizing up to 6XL, but they use models that are diverse in both size and ethnicity.
Uber popular brand Alo Yoga has a long list of fashionable separates made with 4-way stretch meaning their large actually fits up to size 14 and XL fits up to size 18.
Beyond Yoga makes a number of their pieces in extended sizes up to 3X, including many of their most popular styles like the above velvet separates so all women can sweat in both comfort and style. Side note: I’m obsessed with functional velvet!
Cult-fave Reformation is not only focused on sustainability, but on making their clothing accessible to all. A number of their pieces are available in size up to 24.
