It’s easy to get so wrapped up in Karl Lagerfeld’s stunning work for Chanel and Fendi that we forget he has his own eponymous line. But he does, and it’s pretty desirable in its own right, especially the Spring ’15 collection. From cutely cartoonish Choupette-inspired clutches to his signature K/Kuilted quilt bags (Chanel, who?), it encompasses just about everything Karl loves and stands for as a designer. Charm-topped mini-bags and funky, furry critters: while the shapes remain structured for the most part, Karl’s loving fascination with monsters continues full steam ahead. It just goes to show: his design DNA is inextricably infused in the houses for which he designs. So it comes as no surprise we’re seeing blatant nods here and there.
The namesake label also offers Karl the opportunity to reveal a more casual side and toy with sporty hues, as exhibited on the plush quilted backpacks in cherry red and the supremely scaled-down baby bags (hope you learn to travel light this spring!). It also bridges the gap. The chain-topped, textured-leather and suede tote, out of the Fall ’14 collection, is ideal for the girl who is too young for Chanel but old enough to appreciate the brand’s timeless elements. K/Chain textured-leather and suede tote, available for $600 on NET-A-PORTER.
