One of the most buzzed about face treatments right now is Korean pore vacuuming (sometimes called aqua peel facials). So what the heck is this? Well, it’s pretty much what it sounds like – a suction-powered vacuum that pulls gunk out of your pores as it pushes AHA/BHA into your skin to rid you of pesky blackheads, dirt, and dead skin cells. It’s a popular treatment in Korea, but now you can do it yourself at home thanks to ReVit At-Home Microderm Device ($99). With my wedding in a month I didn’t have the courage to experiment with this, but I spoke with my dermatologist who said the device is harmless. She said not to expect any miracles but that it would lightly exfoliate, which in turn would help treat and prevent breakouts, but that it can also leave the skin very dry. Some initial redness is also common.
Note, many people claim that pore vacuuming has made their pores smaller…this isn’t something that is actually possible! That said, while you can’t make your pores smaller (that’s all genetics) you can make them look smaller by preventing oil, dead skin cells, and other debris from getting into them and thereby stretching them out and this product does tackle this issue. Personally though it seems like a lot more hassle then just regular exfoliation, especially since pore vacuuming often leaves skin very dry. I think this is one treatment that seems better left for Korean spas and not for at-home beauty maintenance!
