No downtime, in-office treatments you can do in less than an hour

As a teen a suffered from acne, which I now know was a result of having PCOS. I was never into the treatments that made things worse before they got better, and I’m certainly no different as an adult! With that in mind I turned to New York City dermatologist Dr. Marnie Nussbaum and asked her to share what she considers to be the most effective, quick, no downtime, in-office treatments. These treatments can not only help with fine lines and wrinkles, but some of them also work to treat acne, which sadly because of my PCOS I continue to struggle with on and off.

GlyDerm Esterified Glycolic Acid Peel

“It only takes a few minutes, it’s safe and it’s effective. I like it because it delivers glycolic acid, which is essential for skin renewal, through a controlled-release system that allows for gentle exfoliation. It revives dull complexions while helping to minimize the appearance of not just fine lines and wrinkles but unwanted pigmentation and uneven skin tone. The process is quick: Your dermatologist will decide what strength peel is right for your skin needs. Application is as simple as swiping a glycolic acid-filled wipe across your skin in a few fluid motions. Your doctor will tell you how many peels you will need to attain your goal and will send you home with a GlyDerm skincare regimen. The regimen will include a cleanser, an exfoliator and a moisturizer to allow the skin to renew, cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate. In 20 years and 1.5 million+ peels, there has not been a single reported case of scarring or hyperpigmentation.”

Vivace

“I recommend Vivace Radiofrequency Microneedling for patients who are interested in treatments with minimal downtime. Vivace RF is the latest generation of radiofrequency microneedling that stimulates the natural production of collagen. The treatment entails creating tiny punctures with gold plated needles which are antimicrobial on the top layer of the skin which results in forming new collagen and elastin. While the needles are stamping the skin,  they emit radiofrequency for tightening. During this process, there is also red light or blue technology combined to further enhance collagen formation or kill acneiform bacteria, respectively. Vivace RF helps reduce facial wrinkles, fine lines and tightens and tones the neck, hands and body. The treatment requires about 30 minutes. I recommend about three treatments, but patients notice results immediately after a treatment. This can also be combined with PRP to further enhance new skin formation.”

Clear and Brilliant

“Clear and Brilliant is a non-invasive laser that helps prevent the visible signs of aging. The treatment requires about twenty minutes and leaves skin feeling smooth and youthful looking by reducing the appearance of pores, and improving overall skin tone and texture. Immediately after the treatment, skin appears flush, but returns to its natural color within a few hours. I recommend three to four treatments every four to eight weeks, but patients notice results immediately after the treatment. This can also be combined with PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to further enhance new skin formation.”

Botox

“Botox is an injectable neurotoxin that temporarily reduces deep facial lines (frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines). The treatment requires about ten to fifteen minutes and patients notice results within 4-7 days after receiving treatment.”
