Juice Generation founder, Eric Helms, has teamed up with Salma Hayek (yes that Salma Hayek – she also worked with him on Cooler Cleanse) to launch Blend It Yourself. The new venture is a smoothie subscription service. Basically they send you pre-portioned containers (yay for portion control!) with healthy, frozen produce ready to be popped into your blender (just add your choice of water, milk, nut milk, or juice). What’s cool about the line, besides the convenience factor and original recipes, is that among their 18 smoothies there are four superfood/acai bowls and three “Beauty Blends” which double as face masks (yes, that means you can drink them or shmear them on your face…just make sure to add water instead of milk/juice if you’re going to use them for your face). Besides that they have energy blends, protein blends, green bends, and superfruit blends (prices start at $51 for six cups).
Blend It Yourself isn’t the first of its kind, however. GreenBlender has a similar subscription model and is a bit more affordable, but there’s also more work involved. You get a box with pre-measured ingredients along with recipes and you follow the recipe to combine ingredients (think of it like Blue Apron). There is chopping and rinsing involved before ingredients are ready to be put in your blender. Daily Harvest is another alternative. They send you a box with bags that have pre-portioned ingredients to make a smoothie. This is more similar to Blend It Yourself since there is no prep work involved. They also recently launched “ice cream” blends with flavors like Chocolate Brownie Batter, which has pea protein, organic zucchini, coconut, dates, and black bean brownie bites.
You can’t go wrong with any of these since you’re getting healthy produce and lots of fiber with every option!
