Your Summer Daytime Beauty Routine and My TWO Must Have Products For An All Day Glow

Daytime Beauty Routine

Are you ready for summer? I am! But with so many different products and brands out there, how do you edit down to just a few must have essentials for the warmer months ahead? One of the most requested topics from our readers is my daytime beauty routine, especially after I wrote about reducing my ridiculous 13 step nightly routine to a mere few products back in Feb. It’s taken me a while to share my daytime ritual, however, because I’ve been fine tuning it and testing dozens of products for the upcoming warmer months! But even though my skincare routine changes with the season, there are a few must have products I am never without all year long. One of them is JUNO oil from Sunday Riley.

I discovered JUNO a few years ago when my skin went haywire from stress and broke out regularly in small patches of red rashes. I was working a lot, sleeping very little and traveling like crazy to prepare for the launch of my bag line on HSN. The thought of being on HD tv streamed into 90 million homes in America didn’t help lessen the stress 😂   I tried everything from over the counter to prescription creams (even covering my entire face in Aquaphor one night hoping to rid of the rashes) but nothing worked, if anything, my skin got worse because I was putting too much crap on it.

I can not recall where I bought my first bottle JUNO oil (though I remember very clearly it was $125 vs the $90 price tag now!) but I was in NYC for my press and launch events after a week of using it when I noticed my skin seemed to have healed overnight. Not only were the dry patches gone, my skin was velvety soft and glowing again! The results were fast, dramatic, and unlike any product I had ever tried. It has been a staple for me for three years now (note to Sunday Riley- please don’t ever discontinue this if you don’t want me to show up at your lab like a lunatic!), and no matter my skin condition, it never lets me down.

Since then, I’ve tried many other oils sent to me from different brands but I always go back to JUNO (full disclosure: I buy it from Sephora but have gotten a few samples from Sunday Riley throughout the years). There just isn’t another daytime oil that works as well for me, period. And I am not alone, I’ve told many friends about it (including Chiara aka the Blonde Salad) and they all love it!

With vitamins C and E, essential fatty acids Omega 3, 6, and 9, amino acids, UC shields, antioxidants (to protect from harmful environmental elements)– JUNO is a botanically active blend of a cold-pressed powerhouse of superfood seed oils that makes me glow ALL day. If I have time in the morning or a big event/photo shoot, I also use my Chinese jade roller with it to help with absorption. My skin drinks it up like a thirsty plant in the desert! It is literally a daytime miracle oil. If you have not tried it, you must do so ASAP. There is now a half bottle size for $45, a great size for summer travels or keeping in your bag like me for instant mid-day perk ups! *If you work in an office and reapply your concealer often before meetings, a drop of this mixed with concealer will help soften the lines around the eyes.

Daytime Beauty Routine
JUNO oil 15ml $45 and my jade roller- I don’t believe in wearing too much make up. If you take good care of your skin- you should show it off, not cover it up!

A couple of months ago, Sunday Riley’s team invited me to test out the new Vitamin C series. The didn’t have to ask me twice, I am a huge fan of anything Sunday does- she is a beauty scientist, fellow beauty snob and tests all of her own formulations! I was very excited to try the C.E.O products because my number one concern in warmer months is keeping my skin radiant and sunspot free (if you follow me on Instagram you will remember my triple protection on the beach- hat, full face mask and face shield!) and that is exactly what Sunday formulated the C.E.O to do.

After daily use for over a month, I’ve decided the C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum is my favorite of the three new products. It’s formulated with 15% THD Ascorbate–an oil soluble derivative of Vitamin C that’s very popular in Asia, but relatively new to the U.S. market. At these high percentages, it’s more like a cosmeceutical from a doctor’s office than something over the counter! The consistency is more of a lightweight lotion than a serum and it only converts to l-ascorbic acid once it gets into the skin. Because of this, it’s incredibly stable and doesn’t have the oxidation issues that other forms of Vitamin C can have (most Vitamin C serum I’ve used turn colors and smell bad!). This is an exceptional product, no matter your age! If you’re 25, this stable high potency Vitamin C will combat the early signs of aging. If you’re in your 40s or older, it will help with damage done in the past.

If you can’t commit to an entire new daytime routine, but want to up your skin game, these two products (JUNO oil $45-$90 and the C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum $85) are a must and will work with your current regime.

Daytime Beauty RoutineTwo pumps a day keeps the pesky spots away. This is the most potent over the counter Vitamin C I have used. I love the emulsion texture, it’s great for massaging into the face with your hands or a jade roller.

THE COMPLETE DAYTIME BEAUTY ROUTINE

If you’re in a beauty rut and are looking for a routine that is easy to follow and will make real changes to your skin as it did for me- see below for my complete step-by-step instructions for an all day glow!
Daytime Beauty Routine

STEP 1: CLEAN AND PREP

Sunday Riley C.E.O. C + E Micro-Dissolve Cleansing Oil (at Sephora for $38): I wash my face in the mornings as I often wake up with clogged pores in my T-zone where I am very oily (greasy T-zone is the Asian curse!). I know it sounds crazy to fight oily skin with oil but it is basic chemistry- “like dissolves like” so “oil dissolves oil”. Just one pump mixed with water is enough to refresh my skin and prep it for the day. You can’t glow if you’ve got dirty clogged pores! (You can also use it dry without water at night to instantly remove make up!)

STEP 2: TREAT, BRIGHTEN AND TIGHTEN

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum (at Sephora for $85): I put the serum on clean dry skin, I like it as the first treatment so my skin can fully benefit from its high potency Vitamin C. Heat it between your hands and lightly massage/press on to your face in upward strokes (never down, lord knows gravity doesn’t need any help!). Don’t forget your neck and chest!

STEP 3: HYDRATE

Sunday Riley Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil (at Sephora for $45- $90): After the serum, I apply my trusty superfood for the face. You don’t want to apply the oil before the serum because it will make it harder for the serum to do its job. This is a rich oil, so a little goes a long ways. A third of the dropper heated between your hands to lightly pat/press on the skin upwards. If you have extra, put it on the back of your hands, never waste a drop of this liquid gold! With long term use like me, you’ll start looking like you’re glowing from within! I also love adding a drop of JUNO to foundation to make my own tinted moisturizer. Try it, you’ll use less foundation and look years younger! *JUNO is a must, don’t email you with your dull skin issues if you haven’t tried it.

Daytime Beauty Routine

STEP 4: REPAIR AND MOISTURIZE (optional unless you have dry or mature skin. JUNO and the serum may be enough in the summer for my girls with oily skin!)

Sunday Riley C.E.O. C + E antiOXIDANT Protect + Repair Moisturizer (at Sephora for $65):  I keep it simple at night now but I still like layers of products during the day to protect from and neutralize harmful skin damaging free radicals like pollution, dust, 2nd hand cigarette smoke and the sun. And since I can’t live in a bubble, I slather on high quality products. Depending on how much sleep I get or how dry the weather is (or how dehydrated I am from a night of bubbly), I follow the serum with the Protect and Repair Moisturizer– it feels rich at first but absorbs into the skin really well and I love the fresh citrus scent. It is super hydrating and my skin feels plumped up usually immediately afterwards. As the weather gets hot and humid, I’ll use the serum daily and the cream only as needed because I have combination skin. If you have very dry or mature skin- you will love this for every day regardless of the temperature!

STEP 5: PROTECT

This is an important step- make sure you slather on your favorite sunscreen with minimum SPF 30 before heading out the door!

EXTRA TIPS TO GLOW

Daytime Beauty Routine

Jade Roller: I can’t say enough about Jade rollers! I roll everywhere- airplanes, poolside and sometimes at cocktail hour if I need a boost. Jade rolling is an ancient Chinese method to stimulate circulation for the skin to create a natural and healthy glow, think of it as yoga for your face. I got mine on Amazon but it has broken twice. I can’t find one that is sturdy enough so I am having one made. Stay tuned- I am working on a dedicated post on the different rollers on the market.

Daytime Beauty Routine

Edward Bess Threads of Silk Multi-Use Powder (on NET-A-PORTER for $45): Highlighting powder- In the summer months, I like brushing on a bit of highlighting powder rather than a full face of foundation and make up. It gives a bit of extra glow without the shine of highlighting creams.

By Terry Shine Terribly in Spicy Crush. When temperatures are high, a slick of lip gloss is all I use day or night unless I have an event. Lipstick feels too heavy when it’s hot!

Hi, I remember you using the Skinceutical C E Ferulic serum and swore by it. Is Sunday Riley a better vitamin c serum? Thank you!

    • April 26, 2017 / 9:58 pm

It’s different! Sunday Riley texture is like an emulsion 🙂 And the C she uses is more stable (according to the research, I am not a scientist!). xo Tina

    • February 27, 2018 / 10:52 am

Jade rolling is for basic maintenance- increase circulation and helps with sinuses. REFA is tightening jawline and lymphatic drainage! x tina
