The moment Coco Chanel slipped her beau’s oversized sweater on over her dress, so began the revolution of glamorous cross-dressing. Nearly a century later, the combination holds strong, and there’s nothing quite as perfect as a sumptuously too-big sweater and a delicate slip dress when it comes to transitional dressing.
Ari Dein’s slip dress is far too beautiful to keep behind closed bedroom doors. I’m really feeling the whisper-soft seduction of the exaggerated lace trim, a touch that begs for the addition of some masculine elements. The relaxed prep of Rag & Bone’s classic-sporty sweater calms down the sex appeal for a cool contrast. Be sure to enlist a smart shoe – I love Saint Laurent’s slick flat oxford, but I need the height of the Balenciaga wedge derby – and an unfussy black crossbody, à la Rag & Bone’s Enfield mini bag. A single statement ring, like Maison Martin Margiela’s Eagle Crest signet, is all you need to finish it off – keep it clean! When dressed and done, this is literally my dream outfit for the week. It’s so good, this might just be an ongoing theme for my late winter-to-early spring style.
