Beauty Secrets of the Fabulous

Everyone wants to know beauty secrets of the Fabulous so we’ve decided to interview a Beauty Diva each week to get all of their beauty tips! Our first profile, Makeup Bag’s Erika, shares her secrets:

When did you start the beauty blog and why? Makeup Bag is not quite six months old. I started it last August after nearly two years of wanting to do it, but just not making the time. It’s a lot of work to research and test beauty products, but I’m loving it.

Beauty fixation (what are you obsessed with and why?) I am forever on the hunt for flawless skin. Even without makeup, women with beautiful skin seem to glow from within. I have drawers full of exfoliators, cleansers, toners, creams, gels, serums and every other skin care item you can think of. In addition, I try to exercise and drink lots of water to make my skin happy from the inside out, but honestly, I still break out from stress and hormones.

edamame.jpgEdible Addiction that doesn’t make you fat! Edamame soybeans are so yummy and I could eat them for every meal!

Beauty Secrets (tell us something that no one knows and that you have not disclosed on your site) Every two weeks I wax the tiny hairs on my lip. When we were in high school, my girlfriend brought me to a salon for my first lip wax and the attendant literally ripped my skin off with the wax strip! I had a scab on my face for a week. To save myself the pain (and $15) I now do it myself.

Childhood Beauty ambitions (did you dream of dying your hair pink or blond like barbie?) Being part asian, I definitely wanted to know what it felt like to be flaxen haired, as many of my little friends were blue-eyed blondies. But I don’t remember doing anything drastic (other than ripping out all of my eyelashes with my mom’s eyelash curler.)

duwop.jpgMorning Beauty routine : I’m up early every morning working on my website and doing quiet things around the house, but by 6 a.m. I’m in the shower getting ready for my day. My husband brings me a tall soy latte almost every morning from the Starbuck’s down the street and we’ll talk and drink coffee while I get ready for work. I start with moisturizer and eye cream and follow with concealer and a light foundation. Lately I’ve been using Du Wop tinted moisturizer or Bare Minerals foundation, depending on my mood. I always always always fill in my brows with Benefit Brow Zing, and use either a cream or powder blush for a little color on my pale skin. Add a little lipstick or gloss and I’m fine to walk out the door like this if I’m crunched for time, but normally I’ll spend a few more minutes and apply eye shadow, gel eyeliner and mascara. This whole process takes 10-15 minutes. My hair is super long right now and is a beast to blow-dry, but it looks hideous if it air-dries, so I need an additional 15 minutes to tackle the hair. Making a hair appointment to chop it all off is on my ‘to do’ list!

    Dear Beauty Snob,

I just found out I am pregnant. Do you have any tips to prevent stretch marks? Thanks.

    Hi There,

I had a strict regimen while I was pregnant and I did not get any stretch marks

Dr. hauschka Blackthorn oil- at Wholefoods or Sephora is a must to rub all over your belly and hips. I also used cocoabutter all over my body

good luck! I will do an entry on Dr. Hauschka for pregnant women 🙂

Hi – My first post to the site. I check your site out at work every morning here in UK – loving it!!

On the previous issue of lash obsession (I love that I’m in good company, I too have a major lash obsession), there is a semi-storm whipping up in UK at the moment about Tweezerman Fast Lash, have you tried it Beauty Snob? (or any other readers??). It is sadly unavailable here at the moment but I really want to know what the fuss is about!!!??
