If the eyes are the windows into the soul, then you better make sure your windows are properly framed with beautifully shaped brows. I’ve abused my poor brows for a lifetime. I’ve plucked them, threaded them, shaved them (do not ask, this was a dark period in my life) and everything in between. In college, I plucked them to a ridiculously thin line that was aging and unflattering on everyone except Drew Barrymore. For the rest of us, a thick natural looking brow with a slight arch and elongated tail is most flattering. I’ve been trying to grow my brows out since my co-ed days without much success. I have tried everything, including micro-blading but that still needs reinforcement as my beauty oils fade the pigment quickly. Brow pencils are unpredictable and often leave my brows looking lopsided. For me, the answer to great brows is the brow gel. Kind of like mascara but for the brows. The lift, shape and fill in better than anything I’ve ever tried! To save you time and hard earned money, I’ve narrowed it down to the top three brow gels in the market.
1. Cream of the brow gel crop is hands down from Tom Ford. Not only does it deposit the right amount of color and pigment, there are tiny microfibers to extend and make your brows look fuller! The fibers attach on to your own brows, brilliant! This is perfect for days you want a thicker brow. The wand is bigger than most so you’ll have to play around to get used to it. It’s almost the size of most mascara wands. Tom Ford Fiber Brow Gel, at Nordstrom for $48.
This was me in Paris during fashion week, running around all day means my brows can’t be melting or smudging off. When I make my brows thick, I don’t extend them too long. It will look crazy. #Trust
2. My 2nd favorite is from my girl Emily Weiss’s beauty line, Glossier. It’s a favorite of supermodels and celebs but really well priced so us regular girls can indulge as well. This is the gel I use daily, it gives the most natural looking brow and has a smaller wand and tip for easier control. I keep this in my make up bag and am known to whip it out to demonstrate on friends. I’ve converted many to this gel! And at 16 bucks I recommend buying two (in case you lose one- no one should ever be without perfect brows). Glossier Boy Brow, on Glossier for $16
Because of its smaller wand and lighter deposit of color, I am able to extend my brow more precisely. See how natural this looks?
3. Last but certainly not least, is a long time favorite of mine. Gimme Brow from Benefit. Wand is slightly narrow for precision application. The narrow wand allows you to reapply and reshape your brows if you so desire. I am also able to make a more defined arch with it. Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel, at Sephora for $24.
See where I end my brows? It should cover your entire eye but not any farther than your eyeliner.
