On April 23rd Carlos Falchi celebrated 30 years at Bergdorf Goodman with a retrospective exhibition. Not only were there gorgeous pieces dating back to the 70s on display, but Falchi designed 10 one-of-a-kind bags for the occasion. The designer himself was there and explained that five of the limited edition handbags were inspired by styles from his archives and five were inspired by New York City. When I asked Falchi about his favorite he said that they were all his babies and he couldn’t choose, but if forced to pick he pointed to the Blue Python Signature Satchel ($3,940) pictured above along with its original sketch. More images after the jump!

How stunning is the tale flap of this alligator bag??? The specially designed bag is retailing for $24,990.

This Lizard Fringe ($1,105) was another favorite. Doesn’t it kind of look like a bag Alexander Wang might design?

This is one of the five New York-themed bags. It’s a hand-painted python clutch ($1,070). Not my personal style, but the skin and craftsmanship are truly flawless.
These are really gorgeous unique bags. I go more for the classics ( Chanel), but really love the blue bag. Of course, that is a Falchi classic. Carlos Falchi is a lovely man. I think he is fighting for his company, during these difficult economy days. I wish him well and congratulations on 30 years!!
You gotta be kidding me – the flap bag looks like they forgot to remove the alligator’s tongue when they cut the skin, and the fringe bag looks like one I can get in a thrift shop for $10. And let’s not even talk about the atrocity that is the NY bag…
Congratulations Carlos! From Koki, Teresa and Jorge (hope you get to read this)
I agree with Eli, I don’t get the hubbub over Carlos. His bags are plain ugly. I’ve never liked anything other than his python tote. The rest of it is just whatevs.
i only read to the part about the ‘lip’ and i burst into the biggest laugh i have had in ages. as i fought for control, i continued reading and would you believe i just lost it TOTALLY. best, longest, loudest laugh i have had in AGES.
P.s. i gotta agree with EliG.

Nice bags, but some i find over the top… who would want to be seen with that alligator bag?
with (15)pieces of Carlos in my closet I CAN SAY I am a Falchi Lady………I’m missing my Emerald green python signature satchel of huge shinny scales i got in his warehouse in the late 70’s…………also a medium version of the signature satchel in burgendy mattescales ,,they are being REPAIR,???
I love Carlos Falchi! He is an amazing person and designer!
All his python and caiman bags are handmade in NYC!
All these haters don’t have a clue about exotics or
how much it costs to make them. Carlos is an icon!
I am a fan of Carlos and his hand bags have been since the late 1970’swhen I sold one of a kind jewelry pieces to Bloomingdales NYcThe buyer at the time took my partner and myself to the Carlos Falchi factory in NY as a special treat for she thought his designs were very special and new that we as designers of exotic jewelry would appreciate. And let me tell you I was blown away!!! Idid not know where to look first…The buyer gifted us each with tow of his buffalo bags in the lare size….they made a sensation wherever I wore them and still look fabulous.I will after all these years bring them to be spruced up at the Falchi facility. although they need very little by the wa Mr Falchi is the most charming person u will ever meet! I think the fact that he manufactures in the US should be brought to attention! That such fine products can be produced right here. I have since purchased several more for myself and as gifts…
