Bon voyage, studs, grommets, glitter, and heavy-metal hardware, and bonjour, clean lines, smooth metal, and pristine cutouts! From spikes to structure, I like the direction Christian Louboutin bags are headed for the Fall 2014 “Passage” collection. Up until now, Monsieur Louboutin’s bags (though often gorgeous) have always felt like something of a frivolous afterthought to his lust-worthy high heels, whether stiletto-spiked or decadently platformed. It’s the area where the shoe designer had his fun, with multicolor studs and whimsical embellishments.
This season marks a time of change. With their framed silhouettes, practical shoulder straps, wide top handles, and hardware that doubles as an aesthetic accent and a ready-to-grip handle, these latest bags have multi-functionality to boot. With the sly juxtaposition of pebbled and smooth leather, bold leopard spots set against clean black, or amped up with the much-desired jolt of lizard, a touch (on the gusset) of their signature red soles is the only branding necessary. Let’s face it, whether bag or shoe, you know one of Christian’s creation when you see it. Though the signature crimson may be a flashier indication, Louboutin has found another way to honor to his roots, with the inspiration for the gold-tone and ruthenium metal handles coming from the arch of the Galerie Véro-Dodat, where he opened shop in 1992. These bags couldn’t be more perfect complements for the ladies who lunch in their 5″ Loubie heels.
Christian Louboutin Fall 2014 Passage collection bags to be available at Christian Louboutin in June in three sizes (a larger shoulder bag, a messenger, and a mini version), ranging in price from $1,795 for the mini messenger to $4,995 for the exotics.
