When a designer like Derek Lam has experienced as much success as he has, it would be easy to just stick with the winning formula season after season, pushing out the same designs in different colors and sizes without making any unnecessary changes. But Derek is not like that. He’s one of my favorite designers (the “Bag Snob Pink” blouse he produced for us was a dream come true!) for his thoughtful, intelligent, and ever-evolving approach to fashion. The latest set of Derek Lam 10 Crosby bag styles are some of his best yet, all updated with new hardware (shaped in the number 10), materials, linings, and even with a new logo. Some things that haven’t changed? All of the accessories are still named sentimentally after NYC streets – like the adorably-fringed Prince bucket ($495) – and the price points remain under $950! To learn more about the collection and its inspiration, check out my exclusive interview with Derek…
How has your vision of the 10 Crosby line changed as of late? Since its inception?
The 10 Crosby handbag collection is still a proposition of luxury, sophisticated with a very modern lifestyle in mind. What has evolved is that the collection has developed with really emotional impact to the designs. Simple and chic is not enough. It’s just the starting point. There needs to be interesting color, clever details, new material combinations, all thought-out and present in the collection. Pleasure and fun are the key ingredients, which is great because that is what DL 10 Crosby has always been about.
Who’s the ultimate 10 Crosby girl?
The ultimate 10 C girl is someone like Sienna Miller, playful with her style, but balances it with sophistication.
If the 10 Crosby girl had a single uniform, what would it be?
A clever twist on a sweatshirt and a pair of sexy denim trousers
What talent would the 10 Crosby girl most likely have?

“Poise thru strength”

A fire rips through her closet
What historical figure does she most identify with?
