Fall 2017 Runway-Inspired Trend: Dark Lips

By now we already know that Marc Jacobs always sets trends, and that includes beauty trends. For his Fall 2017 runway show models wore a mix of marc jacobs beauty le marc lip crème lipstick in blow 210, a deep berry velvet, and  blacquer 000, a shiny black, for a bold look that kept the focus just on the lips. To make this look work it’s imperative to have soft, moisturized lips – no one wants flakes of dead skin swimming around on their eye-catching lips! “To get perfectly moisturized lips my favorite products are the ones in the Soft Lips Kit: the Sugar Lip Scrub and Lip Balm,” says Carly Caban, makeup artist at Savor Beauty.

Daniel Martin, Honest Beauty creative color consultant adds that what he loved about the makeup at Marc Jacobs was how real the makeup look was. “What kept it real was how bare the skin was and how it accommodated the lip. It’s that nuance that made the lip the stand out star in my opinion. After you hydrate, apply your desired lipstick straight from the tube. If you get any hiccups in application, you can clean up around the lip line with a q-tip and cleansing water.”

While artists across the board loved the look created for the Marc Jacobs show, you can still stay on trend but add slight variations. Some ideas below!

Dark Metallic Lips

“To achieve this look start with the Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Knights. Top with dark shimmery eye shadow such as the one found in the Antonym Quatro Eyeshadow Palette in Noisette. Take your ring finger and pat the eyeshadow gently on top for maximum richness,” says Caban.

Stained Lips

To get an effortless dark wash of color like after eating a cherry popsicle, Caban recommends applying the dark shade of your choice (here again, Ilia Tinted Lip Conditioner in Arabian Knights could work). Blot with tissue, apply again and blot one more time.

Two tone Lip

“If you’re feeling a little more daring the two tone lip is a bold yet wearable option,” says Caban who recommends using Ilia lipstick crayon in shade ‘99 Red Balloons’ for the top lip and for the bottom lip applying Ilia lipstick crayon in the shade “Call me.
