Call it my love for the sleek and simple things in life, but I just can’t seem to connect with this Muzungu Sisters “statement tote” (that’s an understatement, NET-A-PORTER). I’ve never been one for folksy bags. Frankly, neither has the fashion industry, though, and yet for one reason or another, I’ve seen this kooky creation dangling from the arms of many an editor in the last few months, including the ultra chic Amanda Ross. It’s hand-stitched by artisans in India, and while I certainly admire founders Dana Alikhani and Tatiana Santo Domingo’s desire to stimulate local economies around the world, you have to admit that you can find hundreds of attention-getting bags like it on Etsy for significantly less (see below!). What do you think of the look? Snob or Slob? On NET-A-PORTER for $325.
Red Embellished Tote Bag with Freeform Crochet Designs and Ribbon ($35)
Vintage 1950’s Embellished Tote with Bamboo Handle ($55)
Canvas & Suede Beaded Tote/Overnight Bag ($375)
Pink Tote Bag ($49)
Large Black and White Polka Dot Tote with Teacher Fabric ($27)
certainly ‘snob’if worn correctly…amazing craftsmanship and hand work
I like these bags, they are quirky and probably one of a kind, you certainly would draw attention with them.
