Touted as the Oscars of the digital fashion world, FIRENZE4EVER is a three-day global fashion event like no other. My fifth time attending as host Luisa via Roma‘s guest brought me once again to the most magical city in Italy.
Kelly didn’t come with me to Florence this time, as she had more important plans: renewing her vows with her husband of 10 years (a.k.a. Rich the Tech Snob) in Hawaii. So I was on my own to style the shoot.
For Spring 2014, I’m really feeling the nonchalant juxtaposition of a structured Balmain blazer ($2,565) with verdant floral shoes ($895) and a casually pleated skirt ($2,391). Pastel-pale houndstooth and medium-wash denim look fresh and easy together. The elements also got me thinking about the early ‘90s, which appropriated the bold, heady excess of the previous decade into something more refined. That era feels so right this season. Halaby‘s glittering crystal necklace finished the model’s look with a hint of decadence and drama.
As for Riva, a gorgeous male model from Paris, I kept it classic for his first look. A crisp, open shirt, sans tie and topped with DSQUARED2’s Beverly Hills tuxedo jacket ($2,235), perfectly framed his chiseled face. But this was just appetizer, a warm-up to bigger, wilder looks to come.
Shot on a rooftop terrace overlooking Firenze (where I also shot a video lip-synching to rap sensation Azealia Banks…more on that later), it made for a moment I’ll never forget.
