Gucci Denim Tote and Alexander McQueen Skull Box Clutch: Snob or Slob?

So how do we feel about denim bags? I love a great pair of jeans or a tailored denim shirticon, but my appreciation for America’s most quintessential item of clothing has never successfully translated to bags.

That’s because denim bags are rarely successful. Simply put, they just look cheap to me, and not the appealing cheap of the frugal-chic variety. Instead, they speak of the trashy variety.  Think something along the lines of early 2000s mall rats and Spring Break back when MTV’s The Grind was still in existence.

Now a new crop of blue-jean babies are making an appearance for spring. Alexander McQueen revamped their unmistakable Britannia clutch, and at least they had the courtesy to work hues of indigo and sky suede into the motif, which gives the concept a bit of luxe appeal. Gucci, on the other hand, didn’t give their tote as much thought. In the grand tradition of crass logo-mania, they just plunked a chain (albeit a nice one) on their faded-to-the-point-of-dinginess cotton creation and called it a day. So how do you feel about these two takes on the denim bag: Are you up for a blue revolution or do you prefer to keep your jeans on your bum?

Alexander McQueen clutch, $1,695, and Gucci tote, $1,350, both available at Neiman Marcus.

I think I will keep my jeans on my bum…not a fan.

I’m with Sandra — even if done well, it’s too matchy-matchy.

Denim bag doesn’t work. The clutch is cute but would be even better if it were leather and suede instead of denim.
