Hardware-Accented Bags: Beyond Zippers, Buckles, and Studs

Hardware-Accented Bags

Hardware is a tricky thing. Too little and we’re bored…too much and we’re overwhelmed. Chloé got it just right with its mini Faye crossbody, and ever since, I’ve been on the lookout for bags with perfect amount of hardware. Some accents like the interlocked CCs and Gucci’s horsebit and stirrup are beloved classics, but if these are any indication, there are other brands hoping to make their mark. Which do you think got it right, and which went overboard?

Charlotte Olympia Black Mobile Perspex Box Clutch: Charlotte is never afraid of going big, and while that doesn’t always work out for the best, this clown-nose clasp is surprisingly understated for the Queen of Kitsch. On Ssense for $1,495.

M2Malletier Calf Leather Backpack in Black:icon Melissa Losada and Marcela Velez’s medieval armor and medical instrument-inspired hardware has become a street style, celeb-adored hit, and I’m sure their foray into backpacks will be no different. On Moda Operandi for $1,410.

Sophie Hulme Sky Blue Mini Albion Tote Bag: Sure, it’s oversized, but considering how simple this is, it’s pretty impressive that we automatically recognize this as a Sophie Hulme creation. On Ssense for $850.

Versus Safety Pin Saffiano Leather Shoulder Bag: For those wishing to imitate Liz Hurley’s iconic Versace dress, but aren’t willing to show off the skin. On Luisa via Roma for $495.
