Mia Santiago, who started out at Sally Hershberger and regularly works with celebrities like Mariska Hargitay, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Kevin Bacon and editorials for the like of Vogue and Allure stopped by to share some of her go-to hair looks and tips for this holiday season. If there’s one takeaway: hair accessories! Thanks to Lele Sadoughi – whose hair accessories are now literally everywhere, I even saw them by the cashier at Bandier- statement headbands are all the rage, and I’m certainly here for that. Hair accessories can save you when you haven’t had time to wash and/or style. But it’s not only headbands. Few people will want to admit it, but that oversized statement hair clip trend is in large part thanks to Dorit’s The Real Housewivs of New York looks. Work the sparkly style this holiday before it’s completely overplayed.
Here’s a look at more tips from Santiago.
Hair accessories will be your best friend.
“Have you seen the dinner scrunchies from Kitsch x Justine Marjan? Perfect to twist through your top knot or wrap around a chic low bun.”
Messy hair is OK.
“Messy, undone hair pulled back into a low bun or pony – or free-flowing – is super cool and purposeful. Dry tousle it and add an accessory to really make it pop.”
“Half up, Bridget Bardot styles are soft and sexy. Apply mousse to hair roots on towel dry hair for lifting and being to rough dry with your head upside-down to really lift up those roots. At about 80% dry, use a round brush and big Velcro rollers to create tons of volume. Leave the rollers in to cool down while you apply your makeup. Once it’s cooled off and you’ve allowed the hair to set, take out the rollers. A slight back comb throughout the crown and a quick sprits of flexible hold hairspray will maximize your volume and leave your hair moveable and touchable. Brush through hair to finish.”
