Katie Holmes is the picture of casual chic while out and about last week. Everyone is buzzing over her Carolina Herrera Matryoshka bag ($700) but it’s not the bag that perked my interest; it’s the gorgeous silk “Petal” blouse she’s wearing from Holmes & Yang, her line with stylist Jeanne Yang, that I’m coveting! Unlike other celebrities who are too posh to get down and dirty at trunk shows or merely use their names to hawk goods they’d never be caught dead in, Katie is completely involved with her line. From conception and design to sales and marketing, she works tirelessly side by side with Jeanne and the result is a collection that is fabulous and wearable.
The girls’ design philosophy is simple– offer incredibly well made, effortless yet sophisticated clothes to blend with your current wardrobe (or the “glue” of your wardrobe as Jeanne tells me). Be it Chanel jackets or Helmut Lang blazers and distressed jeans– Holmes & Yang provides pieces that blend seamlessly with any style! No attention to detail is spared– silk skirts are finished with hand stitching similar to that of Hermes scarves and sometimes trimmed with Hermes lace.
On a recent trunk show tour that took her from Dallas to Chicago, Katie mingled with customers and helped them decide on their purchases. You almost forget she’s one of the most famous actresses on the planet and not an eager up and coming designer.
