The business of re-commerce is bigger than ever, thanks to social media and technology. With so many sites around, it’s hard to navigate and zero in on the best. I recently discovered LGS in Dallas (and Chicago!), founded by two childhood friends, Brielle Buchberg and Lindsay Segal. LGS is Brie and Lindsay’s joint vision: A curated designer retail experience and consignment boutique rolled into one.
I did a major spring cleaning and donated boxes to tornado victims in Dallas and decided to give the rest to LGS. I’m somewhat of a hoarder, so it was a good thing LGS sent over two consigner advisors/managers. We had a great time deciding what to keep, what to store, and what to say adios to. Within 12 hours, they’d sold a Birkin bag that had been in its box since I bought it – for double what I paid (if you still doubt the investment value of a Birkin, read this). I see LGS as an adoption agency for luxury goods. They assured me my Birkin is now in a loving, non-smoking home.
But things have a way of breaking even, and just as quickly as they sold my bag, I found one on their site I’d been looking for forever. Now I have my eye on Chanel’s special-edition mini Boy bag in silver stingray. I wanted it when it came out but hesitated for too long. I’ve always thought of it as the Boy that got away. This time, I think I may pull the trigger!
