On April 1st Louis Vuitton will be continuing the tribute to Stephen Sprouse by launching the Vernis Roses collection; a transfer of the artist’s symbolic rose on a Monogram embossed leather. The Collection is an eye catching interpretation of the iconic Alma and a new coin purse, both existing in three flashy Vernis colors: Rose Pop, Orange Sunset, and Vert Tonic.
Starting April 1st the collection will be available on www.louisvuitton.com and in Louis Vuitton stores.
Vernis Rose Alma – $2,730 Vernis Rose coin purse – $485.
I quite fancy the Vernis Rose color and can always use another coin purse… and I actually prefer the Vernis leather over the monogram version. What do you think? Snob or Slob?
I’ve been in a torrid love affair with Louis Vuitton for many years and even tho there have been a few “out there” bags I really dig the new Stephen Sprouse tribute line. I know some of the 80s colors bring back memories of ” I can’t belive I left the house in that ” but this line is hot!!!!!!!!!!! The bags , the super cute shoes (yes I have a shoe obsession also ) well pretty much anything Louis does it for me!! I vote totally snob!!!!!!!
Tina-As I’m reading your post I was thinking I can use another coin purse-then saw you wrote the same thing lol—I have the Stephen Sprouse leopard print scarf-which BTW is OH SO FABULOUS!!!!!! Anyhooooo—I like this I say SNOB!!!!!
I am very much over Louis Vuitton.
Though I appreciate their history, I can’t help but cringe at the idea that my buying anything from Louis Vuitton may be going towards paying Marc Jacobs.
On a somewhat similar note, I avoid anything owned by LVMH. It’s sad, but true, especially when I cringe (in a good sort of love-hate pain way) when I see something absolutely gorgeous by the House of Givenchy.
What to do, I ask my fellow Bag Snobs. What to do?
I am all about loud bags because I always wear plain dark colour clothes, but…. I’m totally not a fan of LV unfortunately.
This makes me almost regret having had bought the Monogram Roses neverfull. BUT, I think I like the contrast of the roses against the canvas monogram better than I do the pink vernis.. or any color vernis because it almost blends in and makes it.. common.
Looks better on the Vernis line, IMO. I love bags that blur the line between fashion and art.
Tina, I have always preferred the VERNIS line of LV over the monogram. But for some reason this rose on alma bag is just too much for me, but the coin purse would be supercute.
I think that this bag is a delightful confection, but I would never buy it.
The Vernis is so delicate. It scratches easily, marks easily, and picks-up print and non colour-fast colours from contact. I’d hate to pay all that money only to have it damaged by an accidental contact on the first day.
Having said that, though…I’m about to make my third Stephen Sprouse tribute bag purchase. I normally don’t like LV -at all – I usually have an aversion to the style of bags that I’ve bought (I’m a structured bag fan)…but for some reason the Sprouse collection has totally transformed these bags and my opinion of them. I just love them.
Go for the Givenchy! Don’t blame them for needing LVMH’s money– it just makes the brand stronger to have a rich sugar daddy 🙂
Ehh..this doesn’t seem like a practical design for everyday wear. It’s something that would probably break an outfit, not make it. It’s so much of an IN-YOUR-FACE-PINK color. Any one else think this is too cartoon-ish?
I think cartoonish is the point! It’s not a serious bag, who would want a giant rose on a hot pink back unless they have a sense of humor? I love it on this, very flashy and 80s fun. But expensive for a fun bag. I’ll have to settle for a small clutch
It’s snob. I like bags with lots to look at. I just wish I could afford it.
Another classic ruined by vandals. Ugh! It looks like a party Pinata!
I like LV, I just avoid everything that Marc Jacobs designs (specifically). I’ve seen the Sprouse collection in store, and please, there is no justification for fluoro lime green or orange. The collection is interesting to look at, but very bright (you wouldn’t want to tote it around if you have a hangover). The only reason why Jacobs is in a job is because his quirky, sometimes distasteful designs, are all the rage in places like Japan and because many big spenders do travel, they flock to purchase anything Jacobs designs, which means profits. I don’t intend my comment to be rude, it’s just difficult to put an observation in words. I have a friend who use to work on one of the stores (that I can’t name for obvious reasons), and she couldn’t believe the tourists who’d spend big just to be up to date, usually buying things that the wealthy locals wouldn’t touch. There are shoppers who do go for quality, and the vulgar rich who just buy for the name. Unfortunately, Jacobs takes advantage of the celebrity factor. His other designs, the Kalahari bag, is another eyesore but because Madonna is associated with it. Clever marketing, even if fugly.
Love LV or Hate LV, you really cannot ignore LV !
Me… I’ve never been a fan !
Come on… Their “brain-wash” branding will make so many women buy a glossy pink bag with a printed flower for USD 2730 ! Just slide the LV image away, and how many would buy it ??
And, here in Asia, my friend and I had our funny-moment-of-the-week when we heard this conversation outside an LV store –
Customer : ( Coming out of the store and pointing at the window display… ) Oh ! That is the one ! I’m getting it now… Ooh ! ( Drool… ) I love it !
Sales Rep : ( Quickly in tow… ) Lovely ! It really is gorgeous… It is from the Stephen Sprouse tribute collection ! It will surely be a sell-out !
Customer : Errr… It is a tribute ? Is he dead ?
Sales Rep : ( Very seriously… ) No ! No ! He’s alive, we’re just paying him a tribute…
Customer : ( Confused… ) Oh ! Sorry ! I thought… … Why would you call it a tribute if he is alive ?
Sales Rep : ( Proudly… ) Oh ! This is LV !
this kind of purses looks so beautiful ,
