Wear your art! Michael Kors‘ philosophy is, “If you can’t afford to collect sculpture or modern art, you can afford to have an incredible pair of silver cuffs.” Michael, I couldn’t agree more. If he was going for sculptural in his fall collection, then he has most certainly succeeded. But this isn’t overly highbrow, oddly directional jewelry. These are jewels that say throw them on and go, wear them with jeans or a gown, and don’t think to hard about it. Kors has always designed with the modern glamorous woman in mind, and according to him, there’s nothing more modern and glamorous than the re-imagined utilitarian, than wearing big, sparkly stones as casually as you can.
The goldtone cuff series is striking – big sheets of gleaming metal to wear around your neck or wrists are bound to cause a sensation. Domed cocktail rings, some in pure tones of metal and some set off with crystals, put most big statements rings to shame, at least size-wise. Thick, python- and croco-embossed cuffs are blatant plays on belts, and you couldn’t get the massive effect of these heaving multi-chain necklaces unless you layered a hundred of your own.
It’s a mishmash of mega-metals and chunky chains, leathers and pythons against high-shine, buckles and bubbles – a look that Michael affectionately calls rock ‘n’ roll equestrian.
