CARNIVALE DE COUTURE hosted by I Am Pretty NYC.
As NY fashion week winds down, it is time to reflect on what looks we’ll be eagerly anticipating (or dreading) for fall. The usual favorites failed to excite (yes you too Michael- maybe you should start focusing on your line instead of your television career) but there were many new shining stars who did. We also saw more black than we have in years, so I guess black is the new black. We are so sick of designers following the “trend” report done by marketing companies to guarantee profits. Haven’t you ever wondered why all designers show the same color palettes each season? It is not by some miraculous coincidence, it’s because they all subscribe to the “Pantone color fashion report”! We love the following designers for bucking the trend and subscribing to their own artistic instincts instead of some lame trend report.
Oscar de la Renta

Our favorite collection of the week is none other than the master of elegance, Oscar de la Renta. He showed a collection of perfectly tailored jackets and lavishly detailed gowns that made us weep. Now this is FASHION!
Narcisco Rodriguez

Narcisco’s black and white elegance wins top honors from the Bag Snob. The clean lines and perfectly symmetrical shapes of his dresses are timelessly beautiful.
Rodarte

We adored the floaty frocks at Rodarte, this team of sisters have created sophisticated pieces with exquisite detailing and the result is a collection that is one of the best of the week. No wonder they are a favorite of Hollywood starlets like Kate Hudson and Jen Aniston.
Monique Lhuillier

We loved Lhuillier’s gorgeous cocktail dresses and Oscar worthy evening gowns. Not all bridal designers are able to make the transition to ready to wear so well but Lhuillier’s talent and style has made her a favorite among brides and fashionistas alike.
Peter Som

Best overall collection was from current NY Socialites’ darling Peter Som. Fabulous suits for ladies who lunch but don’t eat, slim fitting pants with delicate blouses, and drop dead gowns. We will take one of everything!

I couldn’t agree more! Love Oscar! Peter Som is really pricy but his clothes are so irresistable.
I have to admit, that the fall ’06 Betsey Johnson collection was a surprising and pleasing departure from her usual funky, out-of-the – norm self. Chalk it up to the “grandma to be” effect, but it was absolutely elegant, extremely wearable and soft of the eye.
The photos are fabulous. I love everything from Monica Lhuillier and Oscar de la Renta.
