Nina Ricci Lutece Medium Leather and Suede Shoulder Bag: The Sound of Music

Nina Ricci Lutece Medium Leather and Suede Shoulder Bag

If you loved the Marche tote, get ready to fully swoon over the Lutece shoulder bag. All thanks to Peter Copping, Nina Ricci is on a hot streak. Well, more like a sophisticated, beautiful streak. (A bit of trivia: he was Marc Jacobs’ first-ever assistant at Louis Vuitton in 1997 and helped launch the ready-to-wear line. He eventually held the title of women’s wear studio director before leaving in 2009 to take up his post as Nina Ricci’s artistic director.)

I love it when all parts on a bag are in perfect harmony, varied elements synthesized into one seamless entity. Designing a bag is not unlike conducting a symphony: an overly heavy-handed cellist will overshadow the violinist, and similarly an overly heavy chunky zipper will overtake a streamlined silhouette. No such problems here. Our conductor, Mr. Copping, has everything working together in the right measures. A perfectly curved single handle, backed by convertible shoulder strap: lovely. A precisely tailored front flap with push-lock closure for security and a zippered back pocket for convenience: smart. Gathered gussets in a contrasting texture of soft suede with a tuck here and a nip there: the perfect finishing touch. Nina Ricci handbags on NET-A-PORTERicon for $1,850.

Pair with: Make some music of your own with Ashley Pittman’s trio of square light horn bangles, topped with earthy gold accents. At Neiman Marcusicon for $325.
