Make a Strong Statement This Spring: Red Lips

They’re literally splashed all across the newsstands – and that includes international and Canadian glossies (like the image above from Elle Canada) as well as American publications. Shades range from deep ruby to slightly orange, meaning that no matter your complexion you can jet-set around the globe with this trend.

The key with this look is to be more like Sienna Miller – though Evan Rachel Wood is a great editorial shot. You want to keep the focus on the lips meaning cheeks, eyes, and hair should be sleek and streamlined (no Kendall Jenner-style helmet hair either…). This is especially important if you have dark brows, which add weight and drama to the face. Note, especially if you have light skin, it’s best to go for a true red (true reds have a hint of blue in them which will downplay a ruddy complexion). When going for a dramatic lip you’ll also want to make very sure the color stays in place! A good way to ensure this is to exfoliate your lips, then dab some lip balm, before filling the entire lip with neutral pencil and finally applying your color.

Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick 999  ($35), Tom Ford Ruby Rush ($52), and Cle de Peau Beauté Radiant Liquid Rouge in Ruby Red ($48) are all great on-trend options that will go on smooth (brownie points for Tom Ford because his lipsticks always “taste” great).
