Shameless Knock Offs: The City Girl

I lived in my Christian Louboutin City girl sandals last summer and plan to bring them out again when the sun shines again.  They are the perfect luggage brown color that goes with everything and are so comfortable!  I made 3 different girlfriends buy them, that’s how much I love them.  So imagine how annoyed I was to see shameless knock offs from DSW called Ciao Bella for $69.95.  I know not everyone can afford Louboutin shoes but there are plenty of cute shoes at low prices, why resort to knock offs?  What do you think of the Ciao Bella from DSW?  Snob or Slob?

I do like the wider heel on the knock-off better, they look like they would be more comfy than the stilleto CL’s….my 2 cents

You’re ridiculous. The heel on the DSW shoe is completely different for one and the pleating on the sides is different on the Louboutin shoe. There are many companies that produce designer look-a-like shoes for gentler prices; Nine West is one such company. I’m sorry that someone may look cute in $70 shoes while you had to spend $700.

Hmm….they look fairly different to me – loosely based on the Loubie design. Those loubes don’t look particularly original, imo (although they are beautiful!) – but they do have that red sole. Flaunt ’em and don’t be annoyed by knockoffs….unless you are regretting buying the original!

They look exactly the same except the heel. I totally see your point, you spend money on a pair of quality shoes and then a season later see them knocked off for 70 bucks. I’d be annoyed, too.

My two cents, if you can afford the real thing, get them. The $70 pair will not last and this is from someone who knows. I end up buy several pairs of $70 shoes each year that fall apart quickly. I have a pair of Loubies that I wear day in and day out, after 2 years they are still good as new. there is a reason they cost $700… don’t judge others who are able to find

I wouldn’t exactly call them a knock off because CLs were based on a fairly standard style that we see rehashed every few years. CL being a genius he is, reworked them into something very stylish.

As far as quality and comfort are concerned, I have been on the both ends. I have bought $500+ shoes that didn’t work and on the other I have had cheaper shoes that are still going strong. As a matter of fact, last year I bought Payless flats that received more compliments than any other shoe I have ever owned. After few months of wear they had a wonderful patina that gave them a great color.

people “resort” to knockoffs because not everyone can afford to buy tens of 700 dollar shoes(especially in this economy)…some people even buy them not knowing that they are knockoffs, just cuz they think they are cute shoes. this design is similar, but i dont think they were blatantly copying, they dont even have a red sole, so to anyone that knows loubies, they would know what they are not. i say dont judge people who prefer to buy cheap shoes they probably only will wear for one season anyway

I don’t like the heel on either of these shoes, couldn’t “live” in them, especially in a warm summer and I don’t think they really look alike. As for the red sole, it just doesn’t go with every single one of Louboutin’s models, especially these. It looks best with Louboutin’s various black pumps. I’m thankful for all the DSW, H&M, Mango, and Top Shop chains. Designers influence each other all the time. Maybe thats not really called knocking off though, it’s called borrowing your design ideas. As far as I can see most of them look to see what Miuccia Prada is doing and then design accordingly.

Most people that buy “knock offs” don’t even keep up with the luxury brands like CL. They don’t even know that they are knock offs. So, don’t be offended. Just feel lucky that you can strut your stuff in the real thing.

argh, yes! stores like steve madden and baker’s annoy the heck out of me. but i guess that’s how come they can afford to charge low low prices for the shoes—they don’t hire designers! but it IS true that people who shop at these stores probably don’t keep up with luxury brands

yeah i agree with most others here – people probably aren’t really choosing between one or the other. if you can afford the louboutins, you don’t really need to consider the inexpensive ones.

i can recognize when steve maddens (or others) resemble a designer shoe, but i also can’t afford $800 for the real things. i think a good portion of women in my position (who pay attention to fashion but can’t afford louboutins) compromise, and maybe buy a pair of $200 shoes that have an interesting, non-knocked-off design, and will actually stay together for more than six months. they may not be “luxury,” but i think everyone should get the nicest things in their price range without pretending with knock offs.
