When Carrie met Manolo, it was on-screen magic. When Sarah Jessica met George, it was real-life retail magic. Meet the SJP Collection, currently sold exclusively at Nordstrom. I’ve seen my fair share of celebrity line launches, none as well-received as the response Ms. Parker just enjoyed. Women began lining up outside Nordstrom at North Park at 2 am, when the retail giant thoughtfully provided coffee and water. I met a woman who told me she drove 500 miles from the border of Mexico and Texas. And when a great roar erupted upon the lady of the hour’s arrival, you would have thought the Beatles were in the building.
Then again, for shoe addicts, SJP is bigger than the Beatles. She’s the stylish and impossibly sweet best friend we all wish for, the one who takes time to listen to you and always remembers your children’s birthdays. Undoubtedly, her immense success can be attributed to her uncanny ability to relate to women the world over, and they relate right back to her.
The fact that the shoes are really, really good also helps. “Simple chic” is what she says about the line – which consists of 25 shoe styles, bags ($245 each), and a single city girl must, a Manhattan trench coat ($495) – and you can bet these are shoes she is genuinely enthusiastic about. While each one is made in Italy, the prices are quite affordable compared to the current price points of most luxury shoes.
I am obsessed with the Carrie T-strap pump ($355) in nude; a demure 3″ is as high as SJP goes. Stock up on other classic styles like the sexy, barely-there Brigitte sandal ($355), retro-inspired Slim peep-toe pump ($345), and the lace-up Alison bootie ($485).
I watched on as SJP hugged and thanked each and every guest who made it to the front of the line (those who didn’t will receive her signature in the mail). An hour-long appearance somehow became a 2-hour and 5-minute event; her team almost had to drag her away from her fans. There will be no dragging us away from these pieces, though. These are shoes you are going to live in, run in, and as Carrie Bradshaw was known to do, fall in love in.
I was the woman who drove 500 miles to meet/see Ms. SJP!!! Although I didn’t get to her because she had to leave, I was honored to be in the same room as her! I love my new pair of shoes from the collection, and it won’t be my last!!! Thanks for taking my picture while sitting next to you…. It was pretty cool too!!! #SJP #SJPCollection #Dallas #NorthPark #iLoveShoes
Oh my goodness, Joanna! I told SJP all about your long drive after the event and she was devastated she could not meet you. Hope you enjoy your shoes! xx Tina
love SJP!
I went through all the shoes in her new collection-Perfection! I loved all of them. Even at this price point, all I can do is admire from afar. SJP’s collection is not doable to the average woman, especially on a fixed budget. Enjoy for me.
