Spring 2014 Trend: Tough Florals

Spring 2014 Trend

Florals for spring is hardly revolutionary, but the way designers are reimagining the trend for 2014 certainly is. The look is rougher around the edges than we remember, and I have to say, I love it! The contrast between saccharine sweet blooms and tough girl style is just what was needed to keep flower power from wilting. Which piece has you excited to step into the new season?

Marchesa Voyage Embroidered Motorcycle Jacket: Marchesa’s Spring 2014 runway was overflowing with florals, and it seems their contemporary range has fallen in line. Embroidered flowers on a leather moto jacket make for the ultimate fashion juxtaposition. On Shopbop for $895.

Dr. Martens 30MM Floral Printed Core Leather Boots: Keep last year’s punk revival riding high with its signature boots. The print is reminiscent of Givenchy – perfect for Frugal Snobs! Pre-order on Luisa via Roma for $265.

Sacai Contrast-Sleeve Floral Bomber:icon Rather than go with pretty pink flowers, the Japanese brand takes its florals to the dark side. This is a spring jacket, but the color scheme will be great for fall too. Pre-order at Barneys New York for $680.

Christopher Kane Sleeveless Long Body Con Dress:icon Kane’s scientific approach was easily the most unique take on florals at Fashion Week, and with these laser-like bulbs, he’s only getting better. At Barneys New York for $580.

Maison Martin Margiela 3-D Floral Print Open Back Dress:icon The 3-D movement just keeps taking off! This dress may not come with 3-D glasses, but it will still be sure to turn heads. At Barneys New York for $1,440.
