Here’s a simple ode to the power of the bag. I’ve said a bag can make or break an outfit more times than I can count, and it seems a few celebrities of the moment tend to agree. Whether in clutch or crossbody form, these bags are petite yet potent, and their ability to elevate an otherwise ordinary outfit is proven, from slashed jeans to a sharp red suit.

There’s always a place in my heart for rainbows. Maybe it’s the fact they seem a bit magical and represent our dreams coming true. Or maybe it’s that there’s no visual delight quite like a union of every bright, happy color in the spectrum. For example, Stella McCartney’s famed Falabella tote now comes in seven boldly saturated hues, and the bag has never looked better.

…and already we’ve seen four great sales! First there was NET-A-PORTER’s, then Neiman Marcus’, and now Shopbop and Saks Fifth Avenue have taken up the cause to help melt away your mid-week blues with deals at up to 40% off. The former’s discounts will be available through Friday, while Saks’ will last through the whole weekend. The way things are going, I bet there will be more sales to come next week, but in the meantime, make sure you check out these personality-packed steals.

Back in January of 1993, a company launched that would go on to become one of America’s leading handbag brands. That company was Kate Spade. Founders Kate and husband Andy Spade left the über-successful business in 2007 and have now gone on with two former Kate Spade colleagues to launch Frances Valentine, a design house with an eye for playful, feminine style. She is so committed to it that she’s even changed her last name from Spade to Valentine (though it’s worth noting that the latter is a family name; her grandfather's middle name, to be exact)! That’s some dedication. I once saw the two of them speak at an Amex forum and was very impressed with their story, so it was lovely to talk with her personally about what to expect from the new NYC-based studio. If you saw my post on the best beach totes, you know I’m already a fan!

I couldn’t even begin to count the number of memories I made in junior high in the '80s listening to Prince's music. Not many know this, but aside from his own songs, he also wrote hits for the likes of Chaka Khan (“I Feel for You”), The Bangles (“Manic Monday” - Yup! That was him), and Sinead O’Connor (“Nothing Compares 2 You” - a personal favorite). Prince was one of the best musicians of our time, and his personal life was just as inspiring; he credits childhood bullies as the reason he turned to music (If they weren't so mean to him, I would thank them!). So, yes, this is a sappy tribute to one of my all-time favorite artists, a man we lost much, much too soon.
