There’s such a thing as “healthy” chocolate…and we’re not talking just 85% dark

It drives me crazy when health experts tell people to eat a piece of 85% (or even 70%) dark chocolate every time they have an urge for something sweet. That is not sweet OR satisfying! In my experience consistently denying myself the sweet foods I crave leads to binging. I like the below brands because they help me make sweet treats that are actually satisfying while maintaining a low net carb diet. Though I’m the first to admit, every so often, I skip all of this and just bite into a deliciously sugary, zero fiber muffin, donut, cake, and/or brownie…

ChocZero is sweetened with monk fruit (zero sugar alcohols), and they make chocolate squares, dipping cups, hot cocoa, and syrups. Their syrups are great! They’re actually super high in fiber so the net carbs are low. It tastes amazing drizzled on fiber pancakes (which I make with eggs, GG crackers and cinnamon, or banana, egg, cinnamon and oats). To the pancake mix I’ll sometimes add semi sweet chocolate chips from Enjoy Life (more on that below!).

I found out about this brand, ChocoRite, thanks to my fave nutritionist, Tanya Zuckerbrot (founder of F-Factor). She’s always talking about healthy, low carb, high fiber options on her social media. Their candy bars and clusters are low in sugar and come in portion-controlled packaging. They’re also low in net carbs and gluten-free.

Drink Rau is basically the chocolate milk equivalent to green juice (and by milk, I mean “milk” because everything is dairy-free and vegan). It’s a cold-pressed line of chocolate milk alternatives that blends organic cacao beans with organic spices. The brand has six flavors bold original, semi-sweet, cold brew mocha, mint, salted caramel, and coconut, all of which are sweetened with monk fruit.

My mom discovered Good Day Chocolate when she was browsing for natural sleep aids and she has me hooked! The line was started by a double board certified doctor and surgeon and is fittingly dubbed “chocolate with benefits.”  The packaging is super cute and these actually taste great. They’re sweetened with non-GMO, organic sugar and whether you opt for milk or dark, each one is made with pharmaceutical grade nutraceuticals (options include probiotic, sleep, energy, and calm). 

All of Enjoy Life‘s products are certified gluten-free, Non-GMO Project Verified, and free from the eight most common food allergens including wheat, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, and soy. I use their morsels for chocolate chips in my fiber pancakes.

Lily’s Sweets are also a great option for adding into pancakes, smoothie bowls, high fiber truffles, or any other healthy  recipe you’re whipping up (like the above peanut butter cups! I love PB2 for this).
