Valentine’s Day beauty buys for him and her

The masochist in me cared a heck of a lot more about Valentine’s Day when I was single than I do now that I’m married. In fact, my husband and I won’t even be in the same country on Valentine’s! That said, I’m still expecting a little something, something when I get back and it’s never about money, it’s always about thoughtfulness. Many women I know don’t see the “holiday” as a two-way street, but I think it’s always nice to get your man something as well. And isn’t the next best thing to a spa day, some pampering beauty buys?

For men I’m obsessed with Hawthorne. They started as a fragrance brand (working with some of the same noses that worked on scents for Tom Ford, 10 Corso Como, Malin & Goetz…), and now they have an entire body care range. You – or your husband – fill out a lifestyle and beauty quiz that covers everything from skin type to where you work to what you like to do on your day off and it will  formulate products that are customized to each person’s needs/preferences. My husband, brother and father all loved the products they’ve tried from the brand.

I’ve been obsessed with Tom Ford fragrances for over a decade. I might spritz other brands’ fragrances here and there, but for the most part I’m loyal to Tom Ford. Tom Ford Private Blend Reserve Collection ($2,560) is the ultimate gift in my book.

The T3 Cura LUXE in White and Rose Gold ($229) is another product worth obsessing over. It’s specially designed to dry hair quickly while taming frizz. Plus, it’s equipped with multiple heat/speed settings, a Volume Booster switch, and an Auto Pause Sensor that
intuitively halts airflow when the dryer is not in use. Most importantly, it’s as gorgeous as it is effective.

Tape à l’oeil, meaning eye-catching, is a totally fitting name for Christian Louboutin’s new eye color collection. The line-up includes six matte new shades ($50 each).

Here’s something any woman can appreciate right now (or man…), given that we’re still in the horrible-for-skin winter season: Clinique iD Custom Hydrator System. The system – for just under $40 – lets you customize an AM and PM moisturizer to suit your concerns. You choose one of three hydrating bases, depending on your skin type, and one of five active concentrates to treat your main skin concern. There are 15 possible combinations and everything is oil-free making it a particularly great pick for the acne-prone.

A Jo Malone candles is always a great gift idea. My personal favorite is English Pear & Freesia ($78), which you can now get with a special lace design.

Are you into the jade craze? Checkout Skin Owl Beauty Wand ($42), made of white turquoise, it’s designed to help reduce puffiness, increase collagen production, and mitigate stress by stimulating your face’s soft tissue.

Like the customized Clinique products Sara Happ Sweet Dreams Lip Kit ($64- $90 value) is particularly timely. The trio sloughs off dead skin flakes and comes in a ready-to-gift box.
